The Ministry of Defence uses Scotland's coasts and seas. The coasts are mainly used for training and locating bases (sites vary from dockyards and airfields to coastal firing ranges). The data was provided by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
***LAYER BEING UPDATED - USE WITH CAUTION*** This layer shows the locations of dredge spoil deposit sites that are designated as open (in use). The spoil is usually as a result of navigational dredging (deepening of navigation channels) on the approaches to ports and harbours.
It is the statutory responsibility of The Coal Authority to licence and monitor the extraction of coal by private operators. These Licence areas relate to any granted licence for the working of coal since the creation of The Coal Authority in October 1994. This layer shows licenced areas of underground and open cast coal sites and underground coal gasification (UGC). UGC is an industrial process, which converts coal into product gas.
The Kingfisher Information Service - Offshore Renewable & Cable Awareness project (KIS-ORCA) is a joint initiative between the European Subsea Cables Association (ESCA), Renewable UK and the Kingfisher Information Service of Seafish. KIS-ORCA commenced on 01 January 2012 and supersedes the successful KIS-CA project. KIS-ORCA now includes subsea cables (power and telecommunications) surrounding the UK and, for the first time, UK offshore renewable energy structures, in the form of constructed offshore wind farms.
