Metals - Lead (Pb) in Biota from 2013 (time-aware)

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

Marine Environmental Assessment Group data for organic contaminants, metals, biological effects and water chemistry collected for the Clean Seas Environment Monitoring Programme (CSEMP). Sediment and biota samples are analysed for organic contaminants (PAHs, PCBs and PBDEs) and trace metals. Biological effects are also measured in biota. Nutrients are measured in water samples. This layer shows the assessments from the UK Marine Environment Monitoring and Assessment National (MERMAN) database for reporting lead in biota.

All data prior to 2011 is stored on the MSS Contaminants database, all data from 2012 is on LIMS. All data is submitted to the UK Merman database.

Marine strandings data - 2011 to 2020 (cetaceans, seals, sharks, turtles) (time-aware)

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

The layer shows locations of the marine animals that were reported to the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme (SMASS) for the period shown by the dates in the layer name. These often include cetaceans, seals, basking shark and marine turtles. Designed for use with NMPi's time aware functionality.

Norway Lobster (Nephrops norvegicus) - Underwater TV-assessed burrow density (average of burrows) 2007-2016 (time-aware)

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

Scottish underwater TV surveys to estimate Nephrops burrow distribution and abundance, from Nephrops Functional Units of significance to Scotland. Underwater TV footage is taken at specified stations within Functional Units. The underwater camera is mounted on a towed sledge and tow duration is 10 minutes. Records of Nephrops burrows, Nephrops and other benthic fauna is recorded onto DVD for analysis and review. At each station, a custom built sledge is towed along the sea bed and all Nephrops burrow complexes are counted and used to derive density estimates. These estimates are shown in this data layer.
