The Marine Scotland directorate is responsible for leading delivery of the Scottish Government’s marine vision of “clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse marine and coastal environment, that meets the long term needs of nature and people”. At its heart are the purpose of sustainable economic growth and the protection of the marine environment.
Marine Scotland collaborated with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), NatureScot, Joint Nature Conservancy Committee (JNCC), and the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland) (MASTS) to prepare Scotland’s Marine Assessment 2020. The collaboration continues to oversee the necessary assessments required to implement marine planning as well as other reporting. This is achieved through the content of Marine Scotland Maps.
