&lt;p&gt;The work reported here is the second phase of what is envisaged as a four phase project to develop a facility for the fishing fleet to estimate the size of mackerel using sonar. In the first phase a new sonar system was tested at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, analysis software was acquired and adapted, and a fish sizing algorithm was developed. The algorithm was initially tested on model data. In this second phase, the sonar system was deployed at sea during the mackerel fishing season and data was collected to refine the sizing algorithm.&lt;/p&gt;
